Three Must-Have Brand Photos for a Winning Homepage

If you think about it, your website homepage is like a virtual storefront for your business.

Someone who is “just browsing” for a solution to their problem may land on your homepage and is wondering if you can help.

Attention spans are short these days and you typically have less than one minute to capture their attention and keep them moving along the customer journey.  Yikes! 😮

In addition to compelling copy, calls to action (CTAs), strategic design elements, etc., your images convey your brand vibe, personality, professionalism and can play an important role in encouraging the viewer to spend more time navigating your site.

Our brains process visuals much faster than text so making the best first impression with your brand images is key!

Here are some tips on how to use brand photos on your homepage to quickly captivate the viewer's attention and convert them to raving fans.

WEBSITE BANNER IMAGE

Make the best first impression every time with an eye-catching and relevant banner image.  The banner (or hero) image is the first thing that people see when they arrive on your site and typically takes up most of the screen “above the fold”  (or the space on your screen that is visible before scrolling down).

This image should be high quality and relevant to your brand.  For example, if you sell cookies, the image should be of you baking your cookies or of the actual cookies!  The image should also align with the look and feel of the rest of your site.

See above for how my client,  Amy Rind, BCHN, Founder of Woman Minded, uses one of her brand photos in a beautifully aligned homepage banner.

HOMEPAGE INTRODUCTION IMAGE

People want to get to know the person behind the brand and a great way to get right to it is with a homepage introduction image.  After you’ve hit all the pain points with your copy towards the top of the homepage, introduce yourself as the solution to all of their problems accompanied by a photo of YOU!  Have a look above at my client, Danielle Ward’s homepage for a great example.

OFFERINGS PREVIEW IMAGE

Introducing your offerings visually can help website visitors understand what you do and encourage them to explore further.  Use images that will resonate with your target audience and then link to your services page where viewers can get the full scoop on how you can help them.  Check out how my client, Kate Motz, Founder of Integrative Wellness Advisors, uses this visual strategy above.
