Maximizing Your Brand's Potential: A Visual Brand Refresh Guide

new jersey brand photographer

Last week I was on a call with my mentoring group where there was a lot of discussion around spring cleaning for our brands, particularly as it relates to our offers, messaging, etc.

This got me thinking….

This same type of audit could be applied to our visual brands to identify where our brand photos and visual assets are strong and up to date or where there is room for improvement.  While analyzing the state of your visual assets, you may also discover opportunities to use your brand photos you may have overlooked.

Your brand visuals are an important piece of your overall brand identity and performing this type of checkup will only help you keep your brand current and maximize your brand’s potential.

Friendly reminder: first impressions are everything

A visual brand refresh can offer many benefits to your brand including:

  • Improving the perception of your business so you can be seen as the leader and expert you are

  • Appealing to new audiences so you can attract new customers and grow your biz

  • Communicating a commitment to evolving and improving, which can help build trust and credibility

  • Reflecting your growth and the business owner you are today

If you’ve been neglecting your brand visuals (no judgment!) and feel like your brand could use some love, keep reading for my recommended steps to get started with your visual brand audit so you can be on your way to creating more impact and growing your business with a strong visual brand.

Reflect on your business growth: Your business is always growing and evolving, which means your messaging, target audience and brand personality may have changed over the years.  This will give you clarity when you begin to audit and reflect on your current brand visuals to see where a refresh can help you provide a more accurate representation of you and your business.

My client Abby Gallo, Founder, Terrain Bookkeeping is a great example of someone who needed a brand refresh due to her business growth and success.  The brand photos she was using when she first launched no longer aligned with her business and the brand identity she was trying to create.  She felt it was time to elevate her brand image and invested in brand photos in order to convey a more professional image as her business continues to grow and scale.  Abby and I worked together in 2022 and, at the end of that year, she reported in a LinkedIn post how her hard work and investments paid off!

Gather & Analyze Your Brand Visuals:  Set aside time to review your website, social media platforms and any other marketing channels where you are using your brand photos and other visual assets.  Here are some questions to consider:

  • Are your brand photos up to date and represent who you are today?

  • Are you using generic stock photos in places where you could be using personal brand photos?

  • Are you putting your brand photos to work for you across multiple platforms in order to build that know, like and trust factor with your audience?

Develop a visibility plan: Now that you’ve identified areas for improvement, it’s time for action!  This could mean:

  • Hiring a brand photographer to help you update your brand photos with professional, high-quality images that align with the current state of your brand

  • Creating new marketing materials and assets that better represent your brand and speak to your target audience

  • Identifying the platforms where you could be using your brand photos you may be overlooking (Need help?!  Download my free resource, The Get Seen, Get Paid: Ultimate Brand Photo Guide for a comprehensive roadmap to all the places you should be using your brand photos.)
